SheePuzzle – A new puzzle game

Feature02

I would like to share with you the latest project I worked on.

It is a mobile slide puzzle game I did for “11Sheep” – a company based in Israel. And it’s completely free!

I created the entire graphics for the game. That includes the design of the character, the background, UI, Marketing assets and my favorite part – illustrate all the puzzles. Here are some puzzles from the game:

UK ComputerMan Egypt Robinhood

I had a blast working on this project, Credits are due to Adi Kaminski for the game design and 11Sheep for the programming.

The game is available across multi-platforms including: Android, IOS, Amazon and windows phone.

below you will find the download links:

Windows Phone

Don’t forget to rate the game!

Thanks,

Guy

Tiny speck releases all the assets of the canceled MMO “Glitch” for public use

The developer “Tiny speck” shut down the social MMO named “Glitch”. The short lived MMO started at 2009 and was shut down recently due to failure at attracting a sustainable userbase.

However, since they love the game so much they gave it a second chance: They made the entire library of art assets (10,000+) from the title freely available for public use. The Code from the game client is also included to help developers work with the assets.

“Tiny Speck” has relinquished ownership of copyright on the assets, meaning they can be downloaded and used by anyone, even for commercial use.

The Bear & The Hare – A truly inspiring animation

I really love when artists combine different methods of animation. In this animated commercial (shown below), they mixed stop motion and classic animation to create a truly inspiring piece. The commercial launched this weekend on British TV, and it’s the latest in a series of Christmas ads from John Lewis.

It was created by ad agency Adam & Eve/DDB, Directed by Elliot Dear and Yves Geleyn and as a soundtrack it features Lily Allen singing Keane’s 2004 hit “Somewhere Only We Know”. Character designs were made by Disney’s Aaron Blaise, the director of Brother Bear, who had also worked on The Lion King and Pocahontas among other classics.

What was truly an inspiring moment for me was to watch the “Making of” and see the technique they used for the animation. Before watching it I believed the drawings were composited into the live footage by one of the composite softwares available. but I was wrong:

They actually cut out all the drawings and animated live on the set! the advantages of this of course is the use of the lighting of the set as well as a good overall image quality. The downside is that it’s probably more expensive (The animated advert cost £1m to make) and in a way, you’ll have to “animate” twice.

Have a happy holidays everyone,

Guy.

Unfortunate hold on my art camp

I haven’t updated for a while now and I’m sorry about that.

I got really busy with my work and at home, and I had to postpone my art camp studies. I’m still going to get back to it, the camp is online again in the winter so I’ll try to continue my work then.

In the meantime I will update with new work and some new links soon. I also have some new stuff from work coming up so stay tuned.

Noah Bradley’s Art Camp – Week 2

well, this week was all about color studies and imaginary drawing.

I’m not happy with the results of my imaginary paintings and I had to do a lot more but couldn’t make the numbers due to poor time management, but I do feel my color studies is improving a lot.

I’m also working on a master study (which is to copy a famous artist creation as close as I can), so I’ve picked Mary Blair concept art from Peter Pan (Which I hope to finish and post it next week). I really like her stuff. The last thing I did this week was some research on some landscape artists from the old Looney Toons and Disney such as Maurice Noble, Chuck Jones, Phil De Guard and more. I feel very inspired after studying some of this master’s colors and layouts.

I don’t have a lot to show you guys this week, here is a taste of this week work:

The Creative Process of Monster Smasher

Well, I never did a “creative process” post, so I’m really excited.

I always loved to watch art process from start to final piece, so it’s weird to look at this kind of a post from the other side of the blog 🙂

Anyway, as I was saying in the past blog post on “Monster Smasher”, I joined Playscape in the early stages of the game’s production. The concept for the game has been established and the main characters were in progress. I worked with artist Daniel Chamalet and he’s the one who designed the main characters.

The main issue that needed to be addressed was the point of view. It was the first time we had to create a top view design and we wanted to make sure the characters, props and tiles are as appealing as ever. Top view makes it hard to design appealing characters and props, so we had to address that.

My assignment were backgrounds, props, tiles and additional minor characters. Hope you like it! lets get started:

BACKGROUNDS

They are a total of 3 Backgrounds. 1 for each “World” (click to enlarge).

BGWorlds

This is the process of the sewer Background. I decided to go on a blues and greens color palette with this one. the trick here was to give the player the dark and scary feeling of being in a sewer, but keep the overall cartoon and fun style of the game.

SewerBTS

Oh look! I made an animated gif of this process just for you! (Click to view)

CHARACTERS

As I was saying, the main characters were already being worked on as I joined, so my task was the smaller and less important characters and the main characters variations for the different game modes. We also had to figure out the angle that we wanted to show to the player: here is an early test for the angle of the monsters (Art by Daniel Chamalet).

AngleTest

After this test we decided to go with the right one because we wanted the player to see the face of the monsters, to deepen the game experience.

Munch:

The hero of the game, the savior of all the munchers of the world. (Art by Daniel Chamalet):

Munch Variations for the game modes and store items (Art by Daniel Chamalet, Coloring by me):

Puppy:

This little pup is one of the transformation cosmetics that you can purchase in-app through the store. (and also the 1st character I designed)

After you buy it, some of the monster that you’re smashing will transform to cute puppies instead of the munchers 🙂

Animation(Gif):

The animation was fun! on one side I was on a familiar territory, but on the other I haven’t done a hand drawn animation since school! So I was very excited about it. I really enjoyed it though. Here are some GIF animations (Click to enlarge if you cant see the animation)

Piggy:

The cute Pig is another transformation cosmetic you can buy in the store In-app. It’s the same as the dog cosmetic , only well… hmm… pig!

Design & sketches:

Animation (Gif):

When I made the pig animation, I decided to make him run on his belly instead of his feet. Got inspired from the donkey in the classic looney toons short “Robin hood duffy”.

Props & Tiles

Those had a lot of back and forth. I made a lot of different sketches mainly because we didn’t nail the look and feel of them. we also changes some of the tiles few times. (Click to enlarge)

MS_Props

I really wanted to share more with you but I decided to make this post some time ago and I didn’t save all of the process for a lot of things. I’ll do better next time! 😛

If you haven’t played this game yet, you should. It’s FREE, It’s FUN, and I was part of the team! that’s a good reason right there! 🙂

You can download the game from Google market in this link: Monster Smasher

Well, that’s it for now. There’s more stuff in the making – coming soon! so subscribe and come back to visit.

Till next time,

Guy.
